Change

Every silly season has its buzzword. The one for this cycle is change. If I hear one more candidate say they are for change, I think I'll... well nothing - I don't really listen to them anyway.

But I'd like to know what they want to change: The U.S., despite the best(?) efforts of some 500 or so economically illiterate legislators (more if you count statehouses)has the most powerful economy on the planet - they want to change that? We have more freedom than any other country - is this what they want to change? Our military has more combat power than the next dozen or so armies combined and whether you like it or not, it makes all of us safer by giving every tin pot dictator second thoughts - does that need changing? We live in a country where race and religion and place of birth are no impediment to getting fabulously wealthy - is that what they want to change? We have no ruling class, or caste, or hereditary peerage and all you need is the cash, and you are in with the elite (unlike every other nation where you must be born into status) - surely that must change right?

So when you see all the slack-jawed mouth breathers hanging on the utterances of the "fighting for change" candidate, know you are seeing the future - and a bleak and desolate future is what it will be changed into if they get their way.

The only thing that needs changed is for coprocephalic politicians to quit spouting BS and meaningless phrases, and just get down to brass tacks.
Just my opinion.

If I can pay down and off my debt, it would be a change if the Federal Government paid its debt off. It would be a change if they treated American Indians as full citizens, instead of wards protected by FBI and BIA. There are changes that would be interesting, but I know those aren't the ones they are talking about

In a word, YES. That's exactly what they want to change. They can't impose a nanny state utopia if all of us uppity citizens think we have the liberty to choose and to do what we want with our own lives.

How dare we be selfish and hold our inalienable individual rights above the "rights" of American society.

Bread and circuses.

If, by some weird chance, the electoral system actually chooses our next president (I am not solidly convinced votes are actually counted... but I'm funny that way).....

The candidate most likely to win will be the one who pandered the most. Pandered to what? Whatever will drive someone off their butt to vote, and will stick in their pea brain long enough.

I AM comvinced most people vote for negative reasons, rather than positive outcomes.

"Change" is pandering to that part of a person that is unhappy and thinks they'd be happier if 'something was done'.

'Something' is usually done by someone else, ANYONE else but them personally, and usually paid for by someone else (or at least they think it is).

Unthinking people (you know, 80% of the voters) hear the word 'change' and assume it's directed at their own little pet complaint. It takes no more than a few buzzwords to convince them.

"Vote for me, and I'll tax the rich to pay for health care for the needy". Ok, what is 'rich'? What is 'health care'? Who is 'needy'? These questions go unasked..... because lazy people just assume. It's easier than digging to the truth.

I could rant like this for an hour... no point.. You probably understand, as will most who read your blog. The people who need to hear it don't care, and are probably reading about Brittany Spears newest underwear stains anyway, if they know how to read.

Obama is running a very sly campaign: how can you attack one that is formless, eh? This is similar to FDR's approach during the the 30's...

He's very slick in appealing to nebulous concepts that will do nothing...

Now I know why we need to study history!
